Silat Flexible Weapons Fundamentals Workshop

SILAT SUFFIAN BELA DIRI is a Bruneian form of silat as taught to me by Maul Mornie. It utilizes weapon based skills to teach body mechanics that are applicable to armed and un-armed conflicts. Disarms, throws, sweeps, and joint locks are included, but it is the Kuntau (striking) which forms the core of this art.

This session will cover the fundamental movements and skills of Silat Suffian Bela Diri focusing on the use of a shoulder scarf (sesandang) for defense and attack.  Whipping movements, knife disarms, joint locks, and chokes become even worse when introducing this new element.

A $30/person fee covers the instructor’s time and the school.  No prior training required.  Please bring a sturdy scarf if you have one (like a shemagh or a pashmina) but there will be some to borrow.

The class is taught by Brian Pike, SSBD Pacific Northwest Training Group Leader and student of Maul Mornie, the session will focus on sharing the art with new students and expanding interest in SSBD in the NW United States.

Contact Brian Pike for more info [email protected].
